Have you ever dreamt about visiting your hometown overseas, walking down and visiting the house you lived in as a child? Seeing what your old place of work looks like now? Travelling to a foreign country and experiencing the street life?

Well Barry Pendergast of the University of Calgary is giving residents of Wentworth Manor the chance to do all that – and more – without leaving their seat.

A resident is given a virtual reality headset and then taken to wherever they want to go – at least with google street view. Guided by Pendergast, the individual is able to revisit some favourite streets or locals of the past, or maybe travel to a country they have always wanted to visit.

Virtual reality has proven to be a relatively simple and cost friendly way for older adults, especially those with Dementia or Alzheimers to see a sight they never thought they would have a chance to see again due to the prohibitive nature of travel.
