Whether it is a beautiful English garden you have worked on diligently on, or your grandmother’s herb and vegetable garden that fed the family all winter, gardens hold an important place in most people’s hearts. Gardening is an excellent exercise for the mind, the hands, and the senses, which is no surprise that Vision TV presented a mini-series on February 12, 2018 called Ageless Gardens. You can watch online here: Scroll to the bottom!
Ageless Gardens will highlight the beauty and hard work it takes to maintain while focusing on the role gardening can play in healthy aging.
Gardening is an accessible activity open to everyone regardless of your physical or cognitive well being. Gardening is a therapeutic tool that has been shown to decrease depression, isolation and increases physical and mental health. Whether you are sitting outside just enjoying the sights and smells of the garden, or you are on your news planting new bulbs, cooking something from your harvest, the benefits are undeniable.
If you are interested in learning more about the positive impacts Gardening can have on aging and how to create your own therapeutic gardening program, please join us at our symposium on May 15, 2018 where the Mount Royal University Horticultural Therapy program for Older Adults will be featured.
